There’s absolutely no denying this 2008 masterpiece is one of the best, if not, THE best anime of all time.
Confession time dudes: I was trolling you guys when I said Hidamari Sketch x365 was anime of the year. I severely regret making that terribly unfunny joke. How can a man of such extravagant standards for good animes suddenly handpicked a sub-standard anime that accomplishes relatively nothing to speak of, other than being a blatant ripoff of Kannagi?
Thus, here I present you my actual pick for 2008 anime of the year. As it’s a relatively underrated anime (typical of my preference for the non-mainstream), I chose not to feature any screenshots as I fear it might jeopardize people’s curiosity with negative first impressions. You will not find this series listed on ANN, Myanimelist, Mangaupdates, Wikipedia, Youtube or any of your favourite website: a testament to its ultimate status as one of the most underrated anime of 2008.
Ghost Slide (ゴーストスライド, Gōsuto Suraido) is a series created by Kaishaku. The series centers around the main character, Akira Ōhashi, who is transported to an alternate universe (called Daisuru) where there is a war between “Ghosts” and “Slides” after making a post on an internet forum.
The series began as a manga in 2006, enjoying widespread critical, though only limited commercial, success. As a result of its limited commercial success, it was forced to end sooner than the authors wanted, resulting in an ending fans of the series saw as “rushed”. Following the manga, an anime series was announced, with plans to air 12 episodes.
PLOT
Ghost Slide is the story of Akira Ōhashi, who is transported to Daisuru after making a post on an internet forum focused on paranormal phenomena. In this universe, a war between Ghosts and humans has been waging for the past 1,000 years. Akira is attacked by a ghost soon upon entry but is rescued by Googi Boyma, one of the humans who fights against the ghosts (humans who slay ghosts are called “slides”).
WHAT TO EXPECT, WHAT YOU WILL GET

Heart-stopping game of cat and mouse.

Insane in-your-face martial arts.

Interesting, deep and complicated characters.

Non-stop, pulse-pounding action.
LIVE ACTION
A live action adaptation of Ghost Slide is in the works since last Thursday. Additional information is scarce at the current time, though rumours circulating online claimed Uwe Boll is the movie’s director, while Justin Chatwin was chosen to play as Akira Ōhashi after Keanu Reeves turned down the offer in favor of Cowboy Bebop. The movie is scheduled for release on February 14th 2011.

Hahahaha
I’m the Anon who drew that Ghost Slide poster at the beginning of your post. I googled Ghost Slide just for kicks (ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY NEVER FORGET). Good to see my drawing is still being put to good use. ( ´∀`)

Scypher: Wow, thanks for your visit. Come to think of it, the idea behind Ghost Slide itself is generic enough to create a decent anime. If anyone out there is interested in making an actual Ghost Slide anime, I’d say, FUND IT.

If there was only one anime left on earth, I would vote for this one. It changed my life.
