Somewhat of a letdown, but a pretty good start.
I’m on semester break blogging so do force yourself to appreciate the best hard effort I could put within the limits of my laziness.
IN A NUTSHELL
The Malaysian International Toys Fair was held on the 24th to 25th of July 2010 at Mid Valley. The event was held to promote local toy and gaming industry to the public masses while at the same time bringing into spotlight creative talents from around the world to showcase their products (e.g.: arts, designer toys, games, etc).
THE GOOD
+ First of its kind here, at least from what I heard.
+ Cosplayers, the Vocaloid and Star Wars ones especially. Missed the Master Chief cosplayer in the morning.
+ Smaller stores/hobby shops (like Little Akiba) are present, suprisingly a predominant part of the event.
+ A chance for fans to promote their hobby. In this case, the Transformers and Macross booths are present in the event.
THE BAD
- 1/3 of the convention hall was taken up by Chinese companies known for churning out more generic cutesy MMORPGs and Counterstrike ripoffs.
- Pirated Legos? WTF? Where are the real Legos?
- Completely unrelated booths selling educational toys and shit no one cares. So I know they’re still toys, but they’re not exactly the kind of toys that fulfills my presupposition of this event.
- guest18 was there. Who is he you ask?
- Isaac was there as well. Guess how pretty he is.
CONCLUSION
Though somewhat of a letdown in my view, I guess it’s a pretty good start. I like to see future ITF events to have more booths set up by fans and less of these Chinese companies whoring their crappy games (wishful thinking, sadly).
TEH PICTARS
I don’t claim to be an expert in photography. I’m just an amateur with a massive ion cannon handed over from my dad.
COSPLAYERS

The Sister of Battle cosplayer from last year’s Hobbycon was also there. FOR THE EMPEROR!

The upside of these crappy Chinese game companies: booth babes!

Epic Hatsune Miku cosplayer to the right. The other Vocaloid cosplayers are pretty good as well.

What would an event like these be without Star Wars cosplayers? Note to weaboos: cosplay as something else that isn’t the BIG THREE shounenshit.

Darth Vader has altered this picture. Pray he do not alter it any further.

The ubiquitous Stormtrooper trying his best to overcome the Luke Skywalker Syndrome of not accurately hitting anything with his blaster rifle in a packed convention hall.

She has cat ears, a maid outfit of sorts, and an assault rifle. What is not to like about it?

I missed the Master Chief cosplayer in the morning. As a consolation, I get to photograph his helmet.
STUFFS AND WHATNOT

Even the dude on the right agrees with me: WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN

Transformers: how I miss my childhood. ;_;

Licensed Hot Toys figures: things I can never afford.

THE GODDAMN Batpod and THE GODDAMN Batmobile driven by THE GODDAMN BATMAN costs more than a PSP and PS3, respectively.

Those who frequent Lowyat’s Anime Shrine forum should already know which faggot who owns this Shiryuu figure.

For those of you wondering what do I look like during the event, I’m the guy carrying the huge Timberland backpack with an AWESOMEFACE badge pinned on it. Also, I carry a tactical slingbag (aka ‘man purse’) up front wielding a Nikon D5000. Later on, I put on my Char Aznable sunglasses and half-face mask. Ask one of the Stormtroopers for my picture.

With no proper sponsors, these sort of events are always going to rely on those Chink Vidya companies to provide them with funding, regardless of how out of place they are at these sort of places.
