Itoshiki Nozomu is the world`s most negative person. To his way of thinking, there is no hope or meaning in this existence. Even the three kanji of his name become the two-kanji word zetsubou, “despair”, when compressed. What an ironic twist of fate, then, that he becomes teacher to a class containing his precise opposite, the invincibly positive-minded Fuura Kafuka.

One male teacher and tons of girls! Smells like another Mahou Sensei Negima!-type anime of teacher + student harem right? RIGHT? Oh yeah, how did the first episode go?
…and that is only 00:59 into the first episode!
Itoshiki Nozomu, homeroom teacher. Views everyday life with extreme negativity to the smallest details. Paranoid, pessimistic, depressive and suicidal; often tries to hang himself. When his name is written horizontally, it spells the word zetsubou (絶望 = “despair”). Did I forget to mention that he’s the main protagonist? Also, from the eight episodes (out of twelve) I’ve watched, he died at least twice so far in the anime.
Kafuka Fuura, the girl who sees everything positively.
POSITIVELY.
Kiri Komori, a hikikomori (Kafuka thinks she’s a zashiki-warashi) who refuse to leave her room. Itoshiki eventually forced her out, and eversince then chose to live in the school’s science lab instead of her home because she finds it difficult to stop being a recluse.
Matoi Tsunetsuki. Stalks any person she fell in love with. She has recently turned her affections towards Itoshiki-sensei and may hang herself together with him.
Meru Otonashi, a very quiet girl (she doesn’t have any seiyuu voicing her). While appearing rather shy and innocent…
…she’s extremely abusive when using SMS. There are tons of other girls in this anime, but I can’t cover em’ all. For the love of God, watch this anime now!

SZS’s second opening sequence: best opening sequence ever (and one kickass music!). Don’t judge this anime by its OP though. This is a comedy anime with a touch of black humor.
